SCHOLARSHIP POLICY

1. Scholarship Policy

Don Bosco College Mampetta provides various student scholarships, freeships and merit scholarships. This policy document details the various Merit Scholarships that will be bestowed upon the students during their academic program and the framework to implement and disburse the Scholarship.

The following are the details of scholarships, freeships and merit scholarships provided in the College.

2.  PTMA Scholarship for Attendance

PTMA of Don Bosco College, Mampetta has established a scholarship for the students of the College with the name “PTMA Scholarship for Attendance” in the year 2019.

Following are the procedures related to the PTMA Scholarship for Attendance:

  1. Scholarship will be awarded to four students in each semester from each class who gets the highest attendance.
  2. The Scholarship amount shall be Rupees Five hundred (Rs.500/-) only.
  3. Students who have above ninety five per cent of attendance only be eligible for the scholarship.
  4. If there are more than twenty eligible students, lottery method will be used for getting the required number from the students who come into the last category.
  5. Principal of the College is authorized to list the students and to distribute the scholarship, at an appropriate occasion, if possible in the presence of the parents of the students.
  6. The PTMA executive body can make any alteration, if needed, in the above procedures or even discontinue the scholarship.

3. PTMA Merit Award

PTMA Merit Award was established for the students of the College in 2015.

Following procedures are to be followed:

  1. PTMA Merit Award is given to those students who score the highest mark/Grade (UG/PG) of each batch from each programme.
  2. The Award amount shall be Rupees Two Thousand Five Hundred and One (Rs.2501/-) only.
  3. Rs.200/- will be collected from parents of first year students during PTMA General Body meeting, which will be deposited as Fixed Deposit and used for PTMA Merit Award.
  4. Principal of the College is authorized to list the students and to distribute the award, at an appropriate occasion, if possible in the presence of the parents and students.
  5. PTMA executive body can make any alteration, if needed, in the above procedures or even discontinue the award.

4. Fr. Joseph Oonupalathinkal Memorial Merit Scholarship

A merit scholarship was established in honour of Rev. Fr. Joseph Oonupalathinkal Sdb, (founder and the first Director of Don Bosco Mampetta) for the students of the College with the name “Fr. Joseph Oonupalathinkal Memorial Merit Scholarship”.

Following procedures are to be followed:

  1. Scholarship will be awarded in each semester, to the student who gets the first position in the internal evaluation in each class.
  2. The scholarship amount shall be Rupees Five hundred (Rs.500/-) only.
  3. Students who have above Eight per cent of marks only be eligible for the scholarship.
  4. If there is more than one eligible student in a class, lottery method will be used for selecting the winner.
  5. Principal of the College is authorized to list the students and to distribute the scholarship, at an appropriate occasion, if possible in the presence of the parents of the students.
  6. The house council can make any alteration, if needed, in the above procedures.

5. Outstanding Student Scholarship

Outstanding Student Scholarship is a recognition given to students for their contribution in organising events, leading teams or taking initiative in various activities conducted in the college. The scholarship amount shall be Rupees Five hundred (Rs.500/-) only.

5. Best Outgoing Student Award

An award for the students of the College with the name “Best Outgoing Student” was established in 2022.  Following are the procedures to be followed:

About Best Outgoing Student Award

Best Outgoing Student Award is primarily to recognize the best students, not in terms of the grades/marks, but specifically in terms of their goodness, kindness, love and care to others, good behavior and other values recognized by the society.  This award will be presented to the best student in each department of the College.

Procedures

An evaluation team headed by the Head of Department (HOD) with the members of the faculty nominated by the Principal will identify the best value rich student at the department, based on consensus and unanimous opinion.  The team’s decision will be final.  The HODs will report the name and details of the identified student to the Principal.

Criteria for selection

While identifying the best value rich student, the committee shall prefer the following ideas in mind:

  1. Moral value of the student.
  2. His/her good behaviour/conduct/kindness, love and care to others.
  3. Regularity in attending classes and extra-curricular activities of the College.
  4. The student shall have cleared all the previous course/papers results of which are published by the University.
  5. Participation of extension activities (Social Services/NSS/ED clubs, etc.)
  6. His/her contribution to the socio-cultural domain and academic ambiance of the College.
  7. There shall not be any previous or present record of criminal case/charge disciplinary action against the student.

The Award amount shall be Rupees One Thousand (Rs.1,000/-) only and a memento.

Principal of the College is authorized to list the students and to distribute the award, at an appropriate occasion, if possible in the presence of the parents and students.

Academic Council can make any alteration, if needed, in the above procedures or even discontinue the award.

6. Fee Concessions

The college is providing fee concession/ fee waiver for needy students of all courses. A standard procedure is followed for amount exceeding Rs. 1000 per year. Fee concessions below Rs. 1000 is left to the discretion of the Principal.

        1. The students who are intending to avail this facility have to submit their application in a prescribed format to the Principal. The applications can be downloaded from the College website.
        2. The Principal based on the applicant’s academic performance and the economic background scrutinize the application and the same is discussed in the concerned department.
        3. The principal presents the same in the Management council meeting and the final approval and rejection of the same happens.
        4. Usual submission of the application happens at the beginning of each semester. 

7. Best Project Award

Don Bosco College, Mampetta has initiated a new award by name, “Best Project Award” for one best project in the department for the final year students. 

The head of the department will forward 3 best projects to the Principal. The Principal in consultation with the Academic Council of the College will choose one best project.

The chosen students will get Rs. 1000 as cash award.
